Hands-on laboratory experience in organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, food chemistry and instrumental analyses.

Research Training, Organic Chemistry Unit, Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan

April – June 2022

Organic Chemistry Research Training

  • Completed a 10-week training in organic synthesis and qualitative organic analysis.
  • Performed classical organic preparations including Friedel-Crafts acylation of Benzene to Benzophenone, Perkin reaction involving preparation of cinnamic acid, preparation of m-Nitroaniline and Triphenylcarbinol using Grignard reagents.
  • Conducted qualitative identification of unknown organic compounds using ignition, solubility and sodium fusion tests alongside confirmatory tests for amines, phenols and aldehydes.
  • Gained experience in derivative preparation techniques to confirm identities of esters, nitro compounds and primary amines.

T & D Analytical Laboratories and Consultancy Service, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

April – June 2023

Research Intern | Chemical, Biochemical and Microbial Analyses Laboratory

  • Performed quantitative crude protein determination in animal feed samples using the semi-micro Kjeldahl method in accordance with AOAC Official Method 988.05.
  • Conducted qualitative screening for anti-nutritional factors including tannins, phytates, oxalates and saponins in soybean and groundnut meal samples.
  • Carried out serum total protein analysis in animal blood samples using UV-Visible spectrophotometry and biuret reaction principles.

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Lagos, Nigeria

April – June 2024

Research Intern | Food and Chemical Laboratory

  • Rotated across Food Compliance, Food Regulation, Pesticide Formulation and Chemical Compliance laboratories.
  • Engaged in identification and quantification of compounds in food samples using GC-MS, GC-FID and HPLC instrumentation.
  • Participated in nutritional analysis of food samples to verify label claims and assess regulatory compliance.
  • Interpreted analytical data from GC-MS, FT-IR and UV-Visible spectrophotometry for compound identification and molecular characterization.
  • Performed acidity and protein content determination of milk using formol titration techniques.
